BREAKING NEWS

NBF Position — For The Record:

The Nigeria Boxing Federation is not in a fight with NBBofC. NBF is a National Federation created under the Nigeria Sports Act as gazetted, funded and recognized by the Federal Ministry of Sports. Its mandate is clear.
What is being presented as a "fight" is in fact a narrative deliberately pushed by actors who want their private pro boxing activities regularized outside the dictates of the Sports Act. Their interest is not development, it is regularization of an illegality.
The bane of boxing development — in Nigeria as in most African NFs — is not lack of talent. It is:
- Sentimental leadership over competence-based governance
- Self-centered politics that rewards personal loyalty over capacity
- Corruption of development funds, nepotism in selection, ego over system
- Misplaced priorities — chasing titles and travel estacodes instead of grassroots, coaches education and medical safety
- And in the case of NBF, an inherited culture of gossip and mischievous infighting that has become a mirror we must break

There is no NF in continental Africa today that can honestly say it is free from one or more of these. That is the uncomfortable truth. Until NFs choose people with capacity for sports governance over people with capacity for politics, Olympic style boxing will continue to decline, and pro boxing will remain fragmented.
NBF under the Board inaugurated 25 October 2025 has chosen the second path: objectivity over sentiment, statute over sentiment, development over personal gain. That is why we insist on:
1. Compliance with the Sports Act as gazetted
2. A single medical database, single national ranking, single clearance authority
3. Verification of all pro activities through the NBF Pro Committee
If that insistence is called a "fight," then let the record show who is fighting the law and who is defending it.
